For those curious about its functionality, TrollLock appears to leverage CVE-2022-46689, also known as MacDirtyCow. As explained by TrollStore developer opa334 on /r/jailbreak, MacDirtyCow is a live hack that enables writing to all files that a sandboxed app can read. However, it's essential to note that these changes are not permanent; they typically reset after a reboot since information is written to cached data in the device's memory.

Considering this, users might need to reconfigure TrollLock Reborn between reboots to reinstate their customizations into the device's memory. Nonetheless, this minor inconvenience is well worth it, as it allows for customization without requiring a jailbreak on iOS & iPadOS 16 devices, up to and including iOS & iPadOS 16.1.2. Unfortunately, MacDirtyCow has been patched in iOS & iPadOS 16.2, meaning that TrollLock won't function on devices running the newer firmware.
