What is Odysseyra1n?

Odysseyra1n operates as a semi-tethered jailbreak, meaning that you'll need a PC to reinstate the exploit after each reboot. checkra1n is a powerful tool that can jailbreak a multitude of iOS devices equipped with the A7 to A11 SoC on firmware versions 12.0 to 14.8.1. It's currently compatible solely with macOS and Linux. However, a version for Windows is planned for release in the near future.

Following the checkra1n installation, we'll utilize a script to initiate Odysseyra1n. This process replaces key components of the jailbreak with quicker and more modern alternatives.

For iOS 14:

Full support for Odysseyra1n is available only on A8, A9, A10(X), and A11 devices. A8X and A9X devices are fully supported up to 14.4.2 using an older version of checkra1n. A special method is needed for A8X and A9X devices running 14.5 to 14.8.1, which is outlined at Installing Odysseyra1n (A8X/A9X).

Please note that on iOS 14, A11 devices will not permit the use of SEP functionality while in a jailbroken state. SEP functionalities include passcode usage, Face ID/Touch ID, and Apple Pay.

While the checkra1n jailbreak comes with Cydia as the default and does not support other package managers, Odysseyn1x offers a more comprehensive solution. It allows you to leverage the same jailbreak, but enhances it with libhooker, Procursus, and Sileo, which serve as robust alternatives to the now-defunct Cydia. All these improvements are made possible by the implementation of the Odysseyra1n script.

What is Odysseyn1x?

Odysseyn1x is a comprehensive Linux distribution (Live CD) encompassing checkra1n, odysseyra1n, and Project Sandcastle. It's designed to give straightforward access to these tools on both 32 and 64-bit CPUs, regardless of the system platform. At its heart, Odysseyn1x employs checkra1n, a jailbreak tool for iOS 12 – iOS 14.8.1.

This project was not only initiated to offer checkra1n to Windows users, but also to streamline access to the odysseyra1n tool. Post-jailbreaking, you can substitute substrate/substitute with libhooker libraries and employ other package managers including Sileo, Installer, or Zebra.

Odysseyn1x can jailbreak any iPhone model from iPhone 5s (A5) to iPhone X (A11) running on iOS 12.0 to 14 using checkra1n and the checkm8 exploit developed by axi0mX. This full-featured environment for the checkra1n app can be executed on a Windows PC.

The unpatchable bootrom exploit, checkm8, developed by axi0mX, serves as the cornerstone of the checkra1n jailbreak. Its exciting feature is the potential for ensuring a lifetime jailbreak capability for A5-A11 devices. Regrettably, iOS 15 and iOS 16 are not supported.

In addition, Odysseyn1x also incorporates Project Sandcastle, enabling an easy installation of Android on your iPhone. At present, these builds are supported only for iPhone 7 / 7+ and iPod touch 7. As the project is no longer under development, Android support concludes with iPhone 7.

Odysseyn1x jailbreak does not support the latest devices including: iPhone 14, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro Max iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone XR, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XS.

Released as an open-source project under the MIT license, the source code for Odysseyn1x is available through the GitHub Repository. The code, written entirely in Shell, comprises scripts that download the Debian distribution and checkra1n for Linux, building a custom Linux in the process.

To create your own Odysseyn1x, simply execute the code from the terminal. Alternatively, checkn1x, a compact Linux distro (about 28 MB) for jailbreaking iOS devices with checkra1n, is a superb solution for PC users who wish to use checkra1n for Windows to jailbreak iPhone models from iPhone 5s through iPhone X running on iOS 12 to iOS 14.8.1.

Here's what's new:

1. CoolStar's odysseyra1n script has been updated.
2. Added support for the checkra1n 0.12.4 beta.
3. All scripts, excluding odysseyra1n, are now POSIX compliant.
4. Transitioned from Bash to Dash, resulting in approximately 4x speed increase.
5. UI has been slightly enhanced.
6. The ISOs have been compressed, reducing their size by roughly 20 MB.
