Picasso IPA

Cowabunga-inspired UI customization toolbox for the kfd exploit
Picasso IPA

What is Picasso?

If you're keen to leverage the kernel file descriptor (kfd) exploit and your firmware is compatible, then you should keep an eye on a new project called Picasso by iOS developer sourceloation.

Picasso, although a novel initiative for the kfd exploit, borrows heavily from the Cowabunga jailed toolbox, which was intended for the MacDirtyCow exploit. Therefore, if you're familiar with Cowabunga, you'll notice many similarities.

According to a conversation I had with sourceloation, Picasso is a pared-down version of Cowabunga. This implies that Picasso offers fewer features than Cowabunga, but its compatibility with the kfd exploit enables it to work on firmware ranging from iOS 16.0 to 16.6 beta 1. In contrast, Cowabunga only supported firmware from iOS 15.0 - 16.1.2, meaning that Picasso might be accessible to more users.

Picasso comes with several features built-in, including:

Springboard Tools, enabling customization of elements like Dock color, Folder background color, Control Center background color, Notification banner background color, and Notification shadow color.
The ability to install custom system-wide fonts.
The option to customize the Face ID lock icon animation on the Lock Screen.
A tool to personalize your Settings app.
An Audio customizer for sounds such as charging, screenshot, lock, and notifications.

Just like Cowabunga, it is expected that Picasso will receive further enhancements and feature updates over time. Currently, the initial release might seem pared-down compared to Cowabunga. However, it's worth mentioning that not all extensions designed for MacDirtyCow can be easily ported over to kfd; some adjustments are anticipated.

For those who are interested in trying out Picasso, you can visit the project's depiction page where it is available for purchase at $5.95. As per developer sourceloation, once Picasso moves out of beta, the package will be offered for free.

Picasso is associated with kfd jailbreak, implying that you don't require a jailbreak to use it. So, even if you possess Apple's latest iPhone model running a compatible firmware, Picasso can be utilized.
